Quote from wheel4hummer :Oh, and the global warming projection on wikipedia only shows an increase +8 degrees by 2100. Why would I care about the environment when I'm dead?

Not even gonna bother arguing with you, as you obviously have no concept of reason.

Also, you wouldn't recognize maturity if it hit you in the face.

I've got work this weekend

Also, I doubt my 200hp GTI could do much against that S10, and I can't drink for another 4 months, LOL.

Quote from Viper93 :Yeah it's LHD, he didn't say anything. I think they see a few every month, he seemed very impressed though and said it was the best riding car he ever rode in (ACR edition, standard SRT-4's are a bit sloppy, but still the best handling FWD, but only just, if you exclude the works edition Mini)

I will get right on that =P you have 4 wheel struts or is the rear end torsion beam? GTI's are nice cars and probably have more creature comforts, but if you want a snarling, grunting, snapping and poping street machine the SRT is the way to go!

Struts are not ideal but man they make for a cheap car that handles decent =) These engines are amazing, most people are making over 400WHP on stock internals and driveline, thats crazy. Some people are over 500. There are drag racers running over 800 and even 1200 on a 2.6 bore kit! Can't beat a factory car that the turbo starts to spool at 1600! Full boost(14SPI) around 2000. Soo much fun =)

I have front struts and rear trailing arms, I need a rear antiroll bar, but even stock, a GTI handles really well. It's a lot quieter than an SRT-4 though, but with an exhaust system, that's a whole different story

SRT-4s are insane with power though.. 1200 is just nuts. There are VR6 turbos out there that make 700+, and even that's insane.

GTIs and Jettas have leather and can roll up the rear windows from the driver's seat though
Connection to LFS World while racing in Single Player mode.

I know I've suggested this before, but I've never made a thread about it. I'd love to be able to connect to LFS world while practicing offline, I'd like to have my laps recorded, if not in the normal online PB chart, in a seperate offline chart, it wouldn't really matter to me. I'd also love to be able to see my PB change as you do when you race online; and of course it would be nice to see how close I'm getting to the World Record.

Now I know that I could create my own private server and practice alone on that, but then I am unable to save a .spr and export the .raf data into a replay analyzer.

Scawen has mentioned before that he doesn't like programs that connect to the internet more than they need to, and for the most part I agree. However, I think making the single player LFSW connection optional would be a find workaround for this.

I'm not sure how hard or easy this would be to implement, but I think it'd be pretty handy.

Chris, your SRT-4 is still LHD, isn't it? What did the instructor say about riding on the "Driver's side?" LOL.

As a side note, I'll trade you my '03 GTI VR6 for your SRT-4 I only wish it was even half as fast...

Quote from deggis :And that's big downside of todays game developement... telling bullshit lies I mean. There's some truth in it but it's still excuse. This whole "car manufactorers don't allow us to damage the cars" has been really funny joke... Gran Turismo developers said it for years, despite game world already knowing many many many games with damage (and rolling cars).

I think it's bullshit too. I wasn't condoning it, it's most definitely an excuse. It'd be nice if they just dropped whatever manufacturers didn't want their cars rolled

No Ferraris would be fine with me...

Quote from wien :Yep, that's exactly it. I don't feel like I'm controlling a physical (albeit virtual) object. The fact that it doesn't even follow basic Newtonian physics (you can't flip no matter how forces hit your car) just ruins it for me.

A little video that illustrates what I mean: http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=q_hho2EtX4Y Look at the way the car turns when it first catches the car in front. I get no sense of weight transfer, suspension load, all these basic things LFS does do well. There is no substance to the car, it just turns... All this could very well be simulated in there somewhere, but I just don't feel it.

I really don't mean to come off as a Forza fanboy, I'm really not, I just feel like it gets less respect than it deserves.

What you showed in the video is a valid point, but it really all changes with a wheel, it really does. Those jerky steering inputs you see with someone using a gamepad are gone, the car looks much more fluid, and then you can really feel the physics.

Oh, and as for the flipping thing, that's one of big downsides of having licensed cars, not all manufacturers want to see their cars flipped, so as soon as they hit 70 degrees roll angle, the physics engine just says, "apply whatever force necessary to keep the car from rolling further." Kinda dumb.

If I knew how to make videos with my Xbox, I'd make one of me around the Nuerburgring with my wheel, it really does look better.

Quote from wien :I don't know, I just didn't get the right feeling in it. I was using a normal controller, that's true, but I played LFS with one for about 2 years before I got my wheel and to me that felt so much more grounded and "right".

Hard to explain really, but there was just something off about it. Maybe it's just me.

I know exactly what you mean actually, at least I think so. Do you mean like how in LFS, it actually feels like the car is solidly attached to the ground, wheras in GTR, the car feels kinda like it's floating above the ground?

For me, Forza feels very solid and right, the cars seem planted on the ground, they don't do bizarre things when they get air on the Nürburgring. On the other hand, Gran Turismo feels very much like GTR for me, I get this really weird detached feeling from all the cars, like they're not actually on the track.

It's all down to feel, really, but I quite like Forza.

Quote from wien :Forza 2 is the fake, inflated blonde of driving games. Nice to look at and fun to screw around with, but in the end entirely without substance.

...which is fine of course, if you're into that sort of thing.

That's actually not true at all. Forza 2 is one of the best modern sims I've played, ranking just behind LFS, GPL, and RBR for me in terms of realism. Have you ever tried it with a Force Feedback wheel? The physics are actually quite good, just because it happens to be on a console doesn't mean it sucks.

Quote from Nosbox :I'm talking about Burnout Paradise on Playsation 3 and Xbox 360, not PS2 or Xbox.

Yeah, I know. But Burnout will still be Burnout, meaning it will have absolutely no semblence of physics whatsoever. Flatout at least handles somewhat like a real car.

Flatout is far superior to Burnout IMO. Flatout is actually running on a halfway decent physics engine as well as having an amazing damage model, Burnout just has a crazy damage model.

Don't get me wrong, both are exceptionally fun, it's just that Flatout actually handles like you'd expect it to, not just, "Drift as soon as you let off the throttle while turning."

I'm also impressed with out good Flatout 2 looks on my midrange PC, but I can't wait for the XBOX 360 version, that'll be a treat

Quote from XCNuse :Get a license and you can get it back.

I removed it because it isn't fair and that wasn't intentional in the first place, but more of an afterthought.

Don't worry though, the server saved it so if you get a license it will be sitting here waiting for you.

J.B. If you're S2 licensed, then why haven't you asked to get it to say S2 under your name, obviously that isn't a good "bug" to have.

J.B. has been S2 licensed for like, a million years, and Victor did actually have S2 licensed under his name, but some update took it off.

It's pretty common knowledge that he has a license, and has been for a long time. Pretty ignorant of you to tell him to get a license, and take his avatar away too.
